I want to hire you. What can I expect?
Generally, I’ll provide you with a price and time estimate after I understand your project requirements. If you like my estimate, I’ll send you a contract to sign. After you return that to me with your initial deposit, I’ll get to work.
Once I’m finished, I’ll send the work over to you for approval. You can either approve it, request a round of revisions with suggestions for improvement, or ignore it. (If you ignore the work for a week, I’ll assume you’re satisfied with it). With the job done, you submit your final payment, and I turn the copyright over to you.
What are your payment terms?
I usually require a 33% upfront deposit. I will then invoice you for the remaining balance. The middle 33% is due upon receipt of the first draft, or as a milestone payment. The final 34% is due upon acceptance of the final product. Alternatively, we can simplify matters by starting with 50% upfront and 50% upon final completion.
How can I pay you?
There’s a question I love to hear. I accept cash, check, Paypal, and major credit cards (through Paypal). On rare occasions, I’ll consider barter arrangements.
Who owns the copyright?
When you send your final payment, I release the copyright to you.
What’s working with you like?
Wine and roses, baby.
Will you help me ghostwrite a book?
Maybe, but understand that I’m not cheap, and I’m quite selective about the types of clients I serve.
Will you work for free? It’s only writing.
Hahahaha! No.
Why do you charge so much?
My rate is based on those set by the Editorial Freelance Association and reflects my costs (I pay my own insurance, taxes, social security, and retirement), my education (one B.A. and some grad classes from a public university, as well as several training courses), and my experience (about three years of equivalent experience). I also have a family to support.
If you want cheap content, you can try Elance or Odesk. After you do this, contact me, and I’ll edit the crappy documents you receive (at twice my regular rate).
Are you legit?
I’ve been a licensed and registered sole proprietor in West Virginia since 2010. More importantly, I have a track record of quality work and happy clients.
How do I know you won’t take my money and run?
Come on, I’m not Bernie Madoff here. Any business we do will be based on a contractual agreement. In fact, I won’t do work without one. Additionally, you can find me on LinkedIn, Twitter, as well as some other sites. Since I maintain a public presence, it’s in my interest to do good work for you, lest you tell the entire internet I’m a buffoon.
What if I’m not satisfied?
I strive for 100% satisfaction. We’ll work it out. If not, understand that you’re protected by the contract we both signed when work began.
Why Flying Cat Media?
I wanted a mascot, and flying cats are funny. If you’ve ever seen a flying cat, you’ll agree.
